Held in association with Oman Sail, the event attracted 146 sailors from 21 countries
Millennium Resort Mussanah, developed by Omran, the leading tourism-related investment‚ development and Management Company in Oman, bid goodbye to the participants of the International Sailing Championship. The high-profile regatta that kick-started on the 1st October, ended on a high note on 6th October, amidst much fanfare.
The event was organized by Oman Sail, a non-profit organization whose focus is to make sailing accessible to the Omani public. The championship attracted 146 young sailors from 21 nations, who were welcomed by Oman Sail at the opening ceremony of 2019 Asian and Oceanian Championship, held at Millennium Resort Mussanah. The sport was aimed at establishing Oman as a regular destination on the global sailing circuit and also to provide long-term learning opportunities for the youth of Oman and enable them to showcase their talent.
During the competition, young international sailors took part in the championship with Millennium Resort Mussanah’s Marina being the starting point for all the races. This gave the competitors an opportunity to take advantage of the world-class facilities of the resort. Perfectly situated along the waterfront, the resort offered breathtaking views that boasted of spectacular oceanfront, an amazing backdrop of the Al Hajar Mountains and a full view of the action-packed event from the rooms at the property.

The regional Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship included contestants from Australia, Bahrain, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the UAE, competing against a 16-strong Oman team, as well as teams from, Brazil, Finland, Turkey, and the USA.
The championship encompassed two optimist championships with the sailors competed for both individual and team racing titles. Millennium Resort Mussanah, the official venue for this sailing championship, offered its world-class facilities to sailors and the guests along with them. The resort features a private beach with azure waters, awe-inspiring coral population, hotspots for divers and snorkelers, and several adventurous family-friendly activities at the hotel.
